WATER POLO CLINIC IS ON FOR SUNDAY, OCTOBER 16
October 14, 2011 by Gloria Nussbaum ·
After all the back and forth, the clinic this Sunday, October 16 is on and will run from 9 to 11:30 am. We have a small turnout of about a dozen but Denis Zavolock, the coach, will customize the training for this group.
In addition, because of the reduced size and duration, and the fact that there is now one clinic instead of two, we are able to pay for it through the parents fund and will not need to collect any money. If you have already sent in a check for one of the prior dates, please contact Gloria Nussbaum to see what you would like to do about it (have it returned, torn up, etc.)
Thanks!

WEEK OF OCTOBER 3rd

WEEK OF OCTOBER 3rd
Monday, October 3rd
Water Polo Clinic tonight with the Coach of Iona College, which will run until 7:30.
Tuesday, October 4th
Unfortunately, our practices have been altered on Tuesdays and Thursdays due to a Parks & Rec swim clinic that was scheduled by mistake and will begin at 6:30 pm as of this Tuesday, October 4th. As a result, we will only have 3 lanes of the pool from 6:30 to 7 pm. This is clearly not ideal so Coaches will have to see how this works and make adjustments as necessary.
Thursday, October 4th
Again, reduced practice time due to the swim clinic. Thursday will be for varsity only. JV have the day off.
Friday, October 7
Practice from 2 to 4 pm. No school, Staff Development Day.
Saturday, October 8
No practice, Yom Kippur.
Monday, October 10
Water polo referee clinic and extended practice, 2 to 5 pm. No school, Staff Development Day.
Tuesday, October 11
Varsity Home Game vs. Hudson Valley , 5:30 pm.
Water Polo Suits — SIZING
September 20, 2011 by Gloria Nussbaum ·
We have received feedback from a number of players that the water polo suits that were ordered are smaller than expected.
We have been going back and forth with Metro Swim Shop (the New Jersey store that handles team sales.) Because the suits are customized and we had a sizing kit available to try them on before ordering, they will not allow for returns.
However, if anyone wants to order a new suit, they will give a $5 discount, so the price would be $ 27.50. They also indicated that they would turn them around very quickly as the season has already begun.
Sorry for the inconvenience but this seems to be the best that they will do.
If you are interested, please email Gloria Nussbaum, glorianuss@optonline.net, by Thursday evening, September 22 so that we can submit any additional orders by Friday morning.
The Westport Metro Swim Shop has various sizes of this suit in stock in the event that anyone wants to try them for sizing. The suit is the Speedo Avenger water polo brief.

Because of the time lines, we will play 6 minute quarters on Friday, 7 on Sunday. No Overtimes. 2 Time-outs for each team per game.
Please do NOT bring any balls. We will supply warm-up balls & game balls.
Week of September 12th

Tuesday, September 13th – Away Game at Greenwich Y
This is a varsity game as the Greenwich Y does not have a JV squad. However, all players are expected to attend and be prepared to play. With a tournament to follow next weekend, it will be a great learning experience for all, and a show or support for the team. As a result, there is no practice on Tuesday.
Bus time is 5pm sharp.
There will be sandwiches on the bus for the ride there or home for all who ordered. Please bring any liquids and any snacks that you may want.
Captains will be in touch about appropriate dress.
Thursday, September 15th – Pasta Dinner
This Thursday is our first pasta dinner. It will be held at the home of Jeff Burns, 6 Juniper Road. The dinner will start directly after practice and pick up is at 8:30. All players, managers and Coaches are welcome. Many thanks to the Burns family for their hospitality.
More details will follow this week.
Friday, September 16th and Saturday, September 17th – Away Tournament at Greenwich High School
The tournament next weekend will run on Friday evening and Saturday. The Varsity squad will play 3 games and JV will play 4. Please confirm your attendance at all games with the Coaches.
We will have sandwiches both days as well as some snacks, but please bring your own snacks as well as drinks. A concession stand is not a certainty.
Bus times will be announced when they are confirmed next week. All players must stay for the entirety of the tournament and ride the bus each way, each day unless they hand in a signed Travel Release Form form each day.
There is no practice Friday or Saturday.
Water Polo Players Place in Minuteman Triathlon
September 11, 2011 by Editor ·
Freshman water polo players Max Wimer and North Woods placed in Sunday’s (9/11) Westport Kiwanis Minuteman Triathlon. Max, who was sixth overall, finished first in the 13-14 boys age group with a time of 43:40.2. North, who was 20th overall, finished third in the 13-14 boys age group with a time of 46:42.2. Congratulations to them both. (And congratulations to Max’s sister Gabby – a tri-captain of the Staples Girls Swimming and Diving Team – who came in first in the 15-19 girls age group.)
Click to see photos from Sunday’s triathlon. And thank you to all the members of the Staples Girls Swimming and Diving Team who volunteered at the event. We couldn’t have run the triathlon without them.
