Parking for Cameron Bruce Funeral

The Westport Country Playhouse has graciously offered its parking lot for people visiting the Bruce family at the Saugatuck Congregational Church on Friday from 4:00p to 8:00p. The WCP parking lot also is available during Cameron Bruce’s funeral on Saturday, September 25 from 2:00p to 4:00p.

The Bruce family kindly requests that current and recent Staples students and Water Rats park at the Playhouse. This will allow older family members and friends to park at the church

Staples Swimmers Place in Minuteman Triathlon

Marcus Russi, of the Staples Boys Swimming Team, came in first among boys aged 13-14 in last Sunday’s (9/19) Kiwanis Minuteman Triathlon And he was fourth overall with a time of 45:43. Staples Boys diver Tanner Blank, 15, completed the race with a time of 1:13:54.

Staples Girls swimmer Gabby Wimer, 15, came in first among girls aged 15-19 and placed 82nd overall, with a time of 52:41. Emily Green, 16, placed second among girls 15-19 with a time of 57:56. She was 91st overall.

Congratulations triathletes!

Memorial Blog

Cameron’s family have been able to read what is posted on Cameron’s Facebook Wall, but since they don’t have access to Cameron’s account, some of what is written may scroll out of view. That is why we have added a new section to the Staples Swimming site: the Cameron Bruce Memorial Blog, a forum for Cameron’s friends to share thoughts and memories. The blog works like a “Wall” on Facebook. You can write messages and reply to messages from others. If you comment on the opening message, you’ll be asked to supply your name and e-mail address. Once you have been authorized as a member of the Memorial Blog, you’ll be able to create your own posts.

We hope Staples students (past and present) find it useful.

2010 Kiwanis Minuteman Triathlon

There are still places in next Sunday’s (9/19) Westport Kiwanis Minuteman Triathlon. I encourage any Staples swimmers who would like to compete to register this weekend before the race fills up.

Greenwich HS Tournament Update

Please note that there have been changes to the schedule for this weekend’s tournament at Greenwich High School. Current schedule:

Friday: Bus @ SHS 5pm / Game 6:45pm

Saturday: Bus @SHS 11:50am / Games at 1:20, 5:30, 8pm / Return bus approx 9pm

There will be sandwiches for those who ordered them –  please be sure to bring drinks and other food you might want to have.

Reminder: players will not be allowed to leave Greenwich HS for any reason unless they have a signed Travel Release Form.

Email/telephone Contact List

We are firming up our email and phone contact list. Please be sure that we have the correct information. You should be receiving emails from “Staples Boys Water Polo” (or Ron Wimer, but this has been fixed). If not, be sure to supply the neccesary information to Coaches and/or Captains. Thank you.

9/10 Pasta Dinner to be Rescheduled

Please note that the Pasta Dinner that was to be Friday, September 10th will need to be rescheduled as we have a game at Greenwich HS that evening.

Greenwich HS JV/Novice Tourney: 9/10&11

We now have the tentative schedule for next weekend’s tournament at Greenwich HS. One game Fri pm @ 6:45 (bus 5:15pm), and three on Sat @ 10:55, 2:35 and 7:10 (bus 9:30am). Please stay tuned as bus and game times are subject to change.

Since the Saturday games are spread out it would be a good idea to submit a SHS Travel Release form – this must be completed if the player wants to leave Greenwich HS on Saturday (between games) or have a parent drive them one of the trips. [This form can be downloaded from SHS Athletics website, and must be signed by both the principal and the Athletic Director].
